Bionews | Illustration for Website | Brand Supporting Elements
BioNews is an online publishing company that specializes in health, science, and research for people with rare diseases. While working with BioNews, I created illustrations that integrated with their current brand guidelines.
Through my illustrations, I enhanced BioNews’ mission of providing invaluable information and cultivating a sense of belonging for their users. By enriching their publication and community platforms, I fostered a deeper connection between the company and users and empowered their audience with greater understanding and support.
Two distinct illustration systems were developed to use with BioNews. The first system employed a monochromatic scale to allow each illustration to remain consistent with one another. To contrast, the second system incorporated BioNews’ entire color palette to expand the possibilities of visual expression.
Both systems explored similar core topics within BioNews including data, medicine, diversity, community, and science to capture the myriad variability within rare diseases. My goal with the illustrations was to translate these core concepts into visually compelling images to evoke a sense of engagement and empathy among BioNews’ diverse audience.

Bionews | Columnist Banners | Brand Supporting Elements
In addition to publishing, BioNews also fosters a supportive community for its users. They have established over twenty different sites that are each dedicated to a specific rare disease. Each site includes a blog that patients, caregivers, and relatives can contribute to in order to provide firsthand knowledge and experience to other users. Within this context, I had the privilege of creating custom banners for over sixty of the blogs that aligned with BioNews’ overarching brand identity while capturing the essence of each individual community.
